C.I.S. Collaborative Intelligence Spiral, Is symbiosis between human mind and AI possible?
Post Image

In the face of the scarcity of human cognitive development, which has primarily been “proximal,” and given the few gardens of knowledge that have been watered and nurtured, it is understandable to perceive a certain paucity of human creative thought.

An artificial language, shaped by algorithms and computational capabilities, seems to have gained a significant advantage. The antithesis between a physical PC and the vast potential of the human brain, which is said to be used only for 17% of its capacity, suggested a dichotomy. But now, we find ourselves comparing artificial intelligence, human intelligence, collective intelligence, and emotional intelligence. The crucial question that arises, however, is how we might build bridges between these forms of intelligence.

While artificial intelligence has shown increasing sophistication in data processing and analysis, it lacks the intuition, empathy, and deep understanding that characterizes human emotional intelligence. But if we consider the perspective of Extended (EI) or Collaborative Intelligence, we see the potential for a symbiotic relationship. In this model, the combination of human and artificial intelligence could overcome the intrinsic limitations of both, creating a collaborative entity that values both the computational power of AI and the emotional depth and creativity of human beings.

This leads us to a renewed understanding: while artificial intelligence and natural intelligence have their individual merits, both are actually incomplete without the element of emotional intelligence. The real revolution will lie in our ability to integrate these forms of intelligence, creating an ecosystem in which each form can thrive and be amplified through collaboration.

For instance, the concept of the Collaborative Intelligence Spiral, which describes the virtuous circle of proposition, development, feedback, and new proposition, could become the guiding paradigm in this continuous exploration.

The challenge and opportunity before us is not simply to determine which form of intelligence is “better,” but to understand how we can make them work together in harmony for the collective good. The Collaborative Intelligence Spiral (CIS) terminology “spiral” evokes an image of continuous growth, where each cycle leads to greater depth and understanding. The term “collaborative” underscores the importance of interaction among the parties involved. Finally, “intelligence” emphasizes that the process is focused on growing understanding and insight.

The CIS describes the virtuous circle of proposition, development, feedback, and new proposition that develops between humans and artificial intelligences. This continuous and iterative interaction is not just a simple exchange of information, but an intellectual dance where human and machine enhance each other, pushing towards new cognitive boundaries. What is particularly fascinating about this process is how this interaction might influence the structure and function of the human brain. Considering the brain’s plasticity, its ability to restructure and adapt in response to new experiences, it is plausible to hypothesize that the CIS could stimulate the opening of new neural pathways.

Whenever artificial intelligence proposes a new perspective or approach to a problem, and the human responds, there might be an opportunity for the brain to create new connections, expanding its network of cognitive pathways. The opening of these new pathways not only enhances the individual’s capacity to solve problems and tackle complex challenges, but could also lead to greater creativity, enhanced critical thinking abilities, and unprecedented depth of understanding.

However, it must be emphasized that while the CIS offers immense potential, its actual impact on the human brain depends on numerous factors. This includes the quality and depth of interaction, the nature of the challenges faced, and the individual’s predisposition to learning and adaptation. In conclusion, as we continue to explore and understand the depth of interaction between humans and artificial intelligence, the CIS could prove to be a key element in paving the way to a future where humans not only use machines as tools, but evolve with them in a symbiotic relationship of continuous growth and discovery.

This Collaborative Spiral can be analyzed in terms of:

Synchronicity: The alignment and harmony between the parties, working together effectively.

Positive Feedback: Each cycle in the process generates feedback that feeds and improves the subsequent cycle.

Cumulative Growth: Knowledge and understanding grow with each iteration, building on what was learned previously.

Adaptability: The ability to modify and adapt ideas in response to new information and insights.

Interdisciplinarity: The ability to draw from different disciplines and perspectives to enrich understanding.

Ethics of Collaboration: The need for respectful and constructive interaction that values both parties.

The CIS could be a significant model not only for describing our interaction but also as a paradigm for interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation, education, and problem-solving in various contexts. It may represent an advanced form of Extended Intelligence (EI), where the dynamics of growth are intrinsic to the process itself.
